InterVarsity’s Bay Area Urban Project invites you to our Family & Friends Night, an evening of celebration and reunion. Come and hear what this year’s participants have been learning. We will also have the honor of learning from a renown organizer and ordained minister with 30 years of experience in organizing on behalf of the working poor.
Rev. Alexia Salvatierra, the executive director of CLUE (Clergy & Laity United for Economic Justice) will speak from her 30 years of experience with a broken immigration system about the impact of the current system, the pastoral implications, and possible solutions.
Hello friends and family,
We have changed our blog name and address to reflect changes made on our team. Unfortunately, Lila from Alaska Christian College could no longer join the UC Berkeley students from Cal Christian Fellowship for BayUP 11. We were disappointed to hear this as we were looking forward to meeting her and welcoming her into our team.
This summer is about being flexible and open to new directions. So, we have also reconfigured our BayUP summer sites. Covenant House, an organization that serves homeless youth ages 18-24 by providing wrap around services ( food, housing, clothes, case management, amd educational and job development) have graciously welcomed two students (Kimmy and Josef) and one staff (Allie) to intern their for the summer. We are definitely looking forward to spending time there.
Over the week, we will be posting up reflections and updates on orientation week and the first weeks at site from the students. So, stay in tune!
Is just around the corner! June 20th, in fact.
We are excited to see and hear what God has in store for us this summer while we live and work in Oakland, California. Please pray for us as we prepare (spiritually, mentally, logistics, and funding) for the summer.
We will be updating from this blog at a weekly basis. If you are on any of the team member’s update list you will receive an email indicating that the blog has been updated. We will try to capture our experience through short entries, longer reflective thoughts, and photos from everyone. You can also check out other team’s blogs!
Don’t forget to put our blog in your favorites folder!!
